Texas hold 'em also known as Texas holdem , hold 'em , and holdem is a variation of the card game of poker.
Two cards, known as the hole cards, are dealt face down to each player, and then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards "the flop" , later an additional single card "the turn" or "fourth street" , and a final card "the river" or "fifth street". Each player seeks the best five card poker hand from any combination of the seven cards of the five community cards and their own two hole cards. If a player's best five-card poker hand consists only of the five community cards and none of the player's hole cards, it is called "playing the board".
If you play the board on the river, then you can do no better than tie the other player s in the game if no player can make a better hand than the board represents, using either or both hole cards. Players have betting options to check, call, raise, or fold. Rounds of betting take place before the flop is dealt and after each subsequent deal. In Texas hold 'em, as in all variants of poker , individuals compete for an amount of money or chips contributed by the players themselves called the pot.
Because the cards are dealt randomly and outside the control of the players, each player attempts to control the amount of money in the pot based either on the hand they are holding, or on their prediction as to what their opponents may be holding and how they might behave.

Texas Hold'Em is a competitive poker game played in several rounds where players bet to advance from one stage to the next.
It is a game of skill, strategy and, like all card games, luck. The objective of Texas Hold'Em is very clear: Meeting the objective, however, is extremely challenging. In Texas Hold'Em, each player is dealt two private cards, and all players share five community cards. Community cards are the X factor in Texas Hold'Em.
They are revealed slowly through three rounds of play called the Flop, the Turn and the River. The challenge of Texas Hold'Em is for the player to determine which cards will appear, how to use the cards, how other players will try to use the cards, and the odds of winning with particular cards. In Texas Hold'Em, players must take all of these factors into account when betting.
During every round, players choose to forfeit fold , or to place bets to remain in the game. Betting, however, can often be misleading. Players use bets not only when they have a good poker hand , but sometimes to deceive other players into thinking they have something that they don't. If this all sounds complicated and exciting, you're right-it is. However, don't let that discourage you.
